Winter Protocol
During the winter season, from May to November, our national park has certain restrictions.
Why is there a winter protocol?
During winter, conditions in Cerro Castillo National Park change dramatically. Snow, ice, extreme cold, and the climatic variability typical of Patagonia make access a more demanding and risky activity.
Therefore, between May and November, self-guided entry is restricted, and all access must be carried out under protocol. This system allows for pre-evaluation of each activity, review of requirements, experience, and equipment, and authorization of only those entries that meet the necessary conditions to be carried out safely and responsibly.
Furthermore, in winter, an emergency can be more difficult to respond to, as snow and ice complicate movement, and in an isolated territory like Aysén, available services and support may be more limited than in urban areas.
The winter protocol seeks to protect people, regulate park use, and safeguard a mountain environment that requires greater precautionary measures at this time of year.
Any entry to Cerro Castillo National Park, in any of its forms, that has not been previously declared and paid according to the established procedures, will be penalized in accordance with current legal regulations.
